About this place

Added by Trevor Cox

Top Roping with a view. Climb the Penthouse Cracks at Swan Slab near Camp 4 in majestic Yosemite National Park for a time that won't soon be forgotten! With views of Half Dome, BridalVeil Falls, and moderately easy access, this should be added to your To-Do-List for your next trip to Yosemite.

The Penthouse Cracks in Yosemite Valley are a great introduction to crack climbing, in a safe environment. With fixed protection above the routes, you are able to safely top rope these climbs. Featuring a 5.8, two 5.10 climbs, and a 5.11, everyone can find something fun to try.

Park at Yosemite Lodge parking lot, and walk north across the road toward the granite walls. There are usually groups of people trad-climbing at the first wall. Keep the wall on your right, and walk left heading up towards a hill. The trail continues upward and right around to a large granite ledge. Looking upward, you'll see the four cracks that make up the Penthouse Cracks.

To set your top rope protection up, continue up the main trail for 20 yards uphill, and you'll see a class 4 chimney which will need to be climbed. (Be careful doing this, and only attempt if you know you are capable)

Once climbed, continue upward and around the rock on your right, which will lead you to the top of the cracks.

Set your anchor and rappel off or hike down and enjoy!
