Just under a two hour drive from Fresno lies scenic views of the Sierra Crest, Minarets and Lake Thomas A. Edison.
A short 1 mile hike in from Kaiser Pass will lead you to the top of a ridge line with incredible views toward the east. There are two pit toilets located at the top of Kaiser Pass. If you have a high clearance, 4x4/AWD vehicle you can probably drive to this location. (I made it up here in a stock "high clearance" Subaru). If not the hike is mellow and the trail is easy to follow as it's basically a dirt road. The elevation at Kaiser Pass is 9,184 so keep that in mind if you're not used to high altitude.
For an added bonus keep hiking further along the road passing the Dusy Ershim gate. Follow the Dusy Ershim OHV Route till the first switchback and you'll eventually see a small lake to the west. There are no trails that lead to this lake but the open terrain and close proximity to the Dusy Ershim OHV Route make it an easy off trail hike to get to.
