About this place

Added by Adam Franklin

Tokopah Falls is a family-friendly hike to a beautiful waterfall in Sequoia National Park.

This hike starts from the Lodgepole area of Sequoia National Park. Parking is easy at the easternmost end of the paved road prior to entering the campground.

From the south side, the trail starts off by crossing the Marble Fork of the Kaweah River to the north side. It then loosely follows the river and gradually climbs to Tokopah Falls. There is plenty of coverage from the sun and ample opportunity to take in the beauty. In warmer months, a quick jump or swim in the river could be a great way to break up the trip. The final approach to the falls is more exposed as you climb around, and even under, granite boulders to reach the final view point. The end of the trail leaves you with a dramatic view of the waterfall and the valley behind you. There is a large rock with ample space to take in the sights and for a large group to sit and have lunch.

We visited the Falls during Spring Break, and after weeks of warm weather, were snowed on the day prior to this hike. Despite two inches of the white stuff, this trail was a highlight of the trip. The waterfall was also partially frozen which added to the scenery.

Have A Picnic!
Great little snowshoe hike, perfect place for a picnic to watch the falls and and the small avalanches from the high peeks above.
