Lembert Dome via Dog Lake Trail

Lembert Dome may seem impossible to scale when observing it from the trailhead, but it is actually a relatively easy hike up to the summit. It is by far the best way to see and admire Tuolumne Meadows, not to mention the granite top, which is a wonderland to explore.

There are a few ways to reach the top. The first and most popular route is through the Dog Lake/Young Lakes trailhead, it is located in the corner of Tioga Road and Yosemite National Park Road at the Lembert Dome Picnic area. It is a family-friendly 3-mile trail that winds around the backside to reach the dome.

A shorter alternative to the dome can also be found at the Dog Lake parking lot on Tuolumne Meadows Lodge Road. This trail is designated for Dog Lake but you can follow it until you meet the junction for Lembert Dome. The final stretch leading to the summit is unmarked, and consist of exposed granite with no handrails or cables, so use caution when scrambling to the top.

Everything considered, Lembert Dome is a must when visiting Tuolumne Meadows. It is also one of the less crowded hikes in Yosemite, so you will you will only hear the sound of the wind paired with unmatched panoramic views that will not disappoint.
