About this place

Added by Sarah Gooch

This section of the Panorama Trail will take you to the tucked-away Illilouette Falls while providing expansive views of several of Yosemite’s most famous landmarks.

The hike begins at Glacier Point. Find the marker for the Panorama Trail just beyond the viewing steps (to the right, if you’re looking at Half Dome). The first section of the hike will be lined with open views of Half Dome, Vernal Falls and Nevada Falls. It will be hard not to stop to listen to the rushing waterfalls and take in the views. To date, this has been the most peaceful spot I have found in Yosemite. Luckily, there are plenty of large boulders to enjoy the scenery. This will be especially helpful as you ascend up the trail on your way back.

After about 1.5 miles, you will reach a junction. Turn left to continue on the trail, descending over the course of several switchbacks. Just before reaching the bridge at Illilouette Creek, there will be a small dirt overlook with views of Illiouette Falls. Use caution, especially when taking pictures, as there is no guardrail. If you wish to continue to the Creek, it is a great place to stop and have a snack before retracing your steps back to the parking lot.

I'd do it again and again!
This waterfall is one of my favorites in Yosemite. I love that it's tucked back out and away and isn't too far away ...
