About this place

Added by Dan Deublein

Shadow of the Giants Trail has you walking within the shadows of the giant Sequoias!

The Shadow of the Giants National Recreation trail is an amazing 1.1 mile self-guided hike through the heart of Nelder Grove.

Take Hwy 41 north from Fresno; continue thru Oakhurst to Sky Ranch Road (6S10 or Forest Road 10) travel approx. 5 miles to Nelder Grove, when you reach the camp area take the first left (small road) and wind down the road until you reach the Shadow of the Giants trailhead.

As you begin your hike, the trail will split a short distance ahead. Take the left trail as it gently climbs along Nelder Creek. Interpretive signs along the way discuss "The Majestic Giant Sequoia and its Forest Neighbors".

As the trail loops through the grove, you will experience only a few short uphill sections, which makes this adventure perfect for kids. Upon reaching the crossing point at Nelder Creek, you will have reached the halfway mark. Continue downhill where you will reach the trailhead.

After your hike, there is a small picnic area (Senic Splendor) across from the trailhead. You may also find restrooms at the trailhead and at Nelder Campground.

Shadow Of The Giants
Great little stroll, nothing strenuous but still a great time. Beautiful in all seasons, never too crowded, and seeing the sequoias is incredible.
