Hiking Disaster Creek

While this is not a terribly scenic hike, the trees, creek, and terrain are very beautiful, and the entire area is quiet and peaceful. You're likely not to pass a single other person on the hike, which is great for letting dogs off-leash.

The trail starts off with a series of switchbacks, which gain about 700 ft in elevation – this initial climb is certainly the steepest part of the hike, although there will be other steep stretches that are still challenging, later on.

You will wind your way through trees and meadows, hiking along the creek, and making your way to a valley with a pretty meadow at the head of a waterfall. Enjoy a snack in peace at the top before heading back down.

Keep in mind that the trail can be difficult to find, at times, so be prepared to get creative. There are also a couple of creek crossings, which are manageable, but you may get your feet wet.

Getting there: Take Highway 108 and turn onto Clark Fork Road, about 19 miles east of the small town of Strawberry. Park at the very end of the road – you will find the trailhead about 500 feet back down the road, marked by a large sign.
