The Alabama Hills offer free camping (up to 14-days). Grab your camera for perfect views of Mt. Whitney and the surrounding peaks. This area is also incredible for night photography.
The Alabama Hills Recreation Area is a area owned by BLM and open to the public. Camping is free and you can say for a max of 14 days.
The are has 100+ open desert sites that are shadowed by some of the tallest peaks in the Sierra Nevada range. And if that wasn't enough, the area was the backdrop for many western and SiFi films. If you like free camping and can handle the primitive camp sites, then the Alabama Hills are for you. Plenty of fun to be had!
An easy entrance into the recreation area is from the trailhead to Mobius Arch (cover photo), just west of Lone Pine. If you're looking for more details on the area, head to the Lone Pine Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center at 126 S. Main Street to pick up a map prior to heading into Alabama Hills or check out Recreation.gov.
