Camp at Tuttle Creek Campground

Tuttle Creek Campground is a beautiful place to camp during any time of year. The campground offers uninterrupted breath taking views of the entire Eastern Sierra Nevada and Owens Valleys. Whether you are looking for a place to crash for the night while traveling down the 395, rock climbing in the Alabama Hills or mountaineering on Mt. Whitney, Tuttle Creek is the perfect place to camp.

As one of the closest campgrounds to Mount Whitney, it is a great place to prep prior to the long hike to the top. The famous Mobius Arch in the Alabama Hills is also less than four miles away. There are a few other smaller campgrounds in the area and during the summer months they can fill up very quickly. Tuttle Creek offers 81 camp sites nestled at 5,000 feet under Lone Pine Peak.

The campsite offers bathrooms, parking, a fire ring, and a picnic table. Tuttle Creek has group sites, sites for horses, RVs and tents for only 5 dollars a night. You can stay for up to 14 nights. The campground is first come first serve, so arrive early, especially in summer. The weather in summer can be 100 degrees and below freezing in the winter.

From Lone Pine, turn west onto Whitney Portal Rd. Take Whitney Portal for 3 miles until you reach Horseshoe Meadow Rd. Turn Left/South onto Horseshoe Meadow Rd and drive 1.5 miles to the Tuttle Creek Campground entrance. Turn right/west and take the road for a mile to the campground. The campground is close enough to Lone Pine that you can run into town for anything or grab a bit to eat.
