About this place

Added by Audrey Abeyta

Weaver Lake is a beautiful subalpine lake with no backpacking quota restrictions. There's also great trout fishing.

The hike to Weaver Lake begins at the Big Meadows trailhead in Sequoia National Forest (elevation: 7,633 ft.). There is roadside parking at the beginning of the trailhead and more parking available just inside the gate. At the trailhead, there is a vault toilet, trash receptacle, and map of the area.

The trail is well-marked and easy to follow. Approximately two miles into the hike, you'll come to a flowing creek (perfect spot to stop for a snack!) and the junction for Weaver and Jennie lakes. The junction is marked by a sign, pointing to the left (east) for Weaver Lake and right (south) for Jennie Lake. From this junction, it's approximately 1.5 miles to Weaver Lake (elevation: 8,707 ft.).

There are 15 campsites with fire rings at Weaver Lake, primarily on the north and west sides. The campsites are well-spaced and allow you a sense of isolation even during busier seasons.

The lake is bordered by small boulders that allow you to navigate around the lake or find a peaceful reading spot. Many people were fishing at the lake, which is known for trout.

At 7 miles round trip, this can be done as a day hike or overnight trip. This is the perfect backpacking trip for families, first-timers, or more seasoned backpackers looking for a short overnight trip.

Trailhead coordinates: 36.7185, -118.8341
