Scenic road leads past several lakes and streams, along with dozens of Sheepeater Indian petroglyphs.
Taking a drive down this road is well worth the trip. The first 10 or so miles are not particularly noteworthy, but once you reach the first lake (Trail Lake) the road becomes a lot more scenic. You will also pass Torrey and Ring Lakes. All of these lakes offer fishing, camping, and picnicking opportunities.
Once you pass Trail Lake keep your eye out on the rocks, especially the ones to your right, as there hundreds of petroglyphs. A short 10 minute walk revealed many, and the more you hike, the more you will discover.
The road dead ends into a trailhead that takes you into the Wind River Mountains and the Fitzpatrick Wilderness. The view from the end is spectacular.
In the winter, you can only drive a short bit up this road as the rest of it is a protected bighorn sheep refuge. Still, bighorn sheep are beautiful animals and it is worth the drive.
