Hike Coal Creek Trail

Imagine hiking through the expansive valleys of wildflowers and evergreen forests with grand views of the Tetons. That is exactly what this trail provides. The coal creek trail is an access trail to many other great trails throughout the Bridger-Teton National Forest. This gives the adventurer the option of a short day hike or a multi-day backpacking trip.

Access to the Coal Creek Trailhead is conveniently located at a pull-out off of the Teton Pass (Wyoming Hwy 22). Coming from Victor/Driggs and the Idaho side, go east along WY-22 and pull-out will be on the left just before beginning the ascent up the pass. Ample parking is available.

The trail gently ascends uphill through some dense woods in the beginning with a creek crossing. The moderate incline continues into the wide expanses of grasses and wildflowers of the approaching valley. Switchbacks keep the incline at a minimum with a couple of crossings through aspen groves! After reaching the junction at coal creak meadows, continue uphill for 0.2 miles upon reaching the Coal-Mesquite Divide for unbelievable views of the wildflower covered valley below with many forests and the Grand Teton rising up perfectly in the middle of the spectacular backdrop. This is a great stopping spot for those wanting a nice short day-hike, but the trail continues onward for those feeling more adventurous.

Because of the gentle incline and multiple options for great day hiking, this is a very family friendly trail, great for picnics or even trail runs with your dog.
