About this place

Added by Christina Adele Warburg-Hon

Brooks Lake is a gorgeous mountain lake and summer swimming hole off of Highway 26 near Dunoir, Wyoming.

Brooks Lake is going to be a short 45 minute drive east of Grand Teton, but the spectacular scenery is well worth the drive. This lake is a grizzly bear hot spot, so keep your eyes open. If you pack your rod and reel, then this is a great spot to fish for trout. If photography is one of your favorite activities, make sure to come right around 4pm...you'll be glad you did. The nearby Brooks Lake Lodge sends their horses to pasture at that time. The sight of seeing the entire herd of horses running at full speed up and over the hills is something you will never forget. It truly makes you feel like you are in the wild, free west.

This a relatively calm lake with lots of easy hiking trails surrounding it including the loop trail. There are also 2 great campgrounds right on the shores of the lake. Head to the USDA Forrest Service site for more information on the Brooks Lake Campground or the Pinnacles Campground.

Tip: If you are going in early summer/spring, bring the mosquito repellant. The mosquitoes are ferocious at Brooks Lake.

Excellent fly fishing location! The stream flowing out of the lake (Brooks Lake Creek) holds large numbers of 12" rainbows. Try a Mormon Girl ...

It was truly amazing watching the horses run out to pasture and you are right - it is an authentic "Old West" feeling!
