Camp at the Radio Towers on Limestone Mountain

Limestone Mountain on the southern end of the Wind River range is famous for the nearby climbing mecca, Wild Iris, but it is also an excellent place to camp with ready access via forest roads to all manner of outdoor adventure activities including hiking and mountain biking.

The top of the mountain is covered by radio towers leaving most to camp down the hill, but past the radio towers on forest road 327 is an excellent flat area with several excellent dispersed campsites with views to the northwest overlooking Cherry Creek Canyon some 800 feet below.

To get there take Highway 28 west out of Lander for 26 miles turning right on Limestone Mountain Road. Stay right up to the top of the mountain, past the Wild Iris parking area. Proceed over the top of the mountain on Forest Road 327 past the radio towers for approximately 1 mile.

To get there from the West, take Highway 28 for 52 miles east going left onto Limestone Mountain Road.

Note that in the winter the roads, including Highway 28, may be impassible. This is a dispersed camping area and there are no facilities of any kind.
