About this place

Added by Zoua Xiong

See the island from the lake. Enjoy views of the sea caves, cliffs, beaches, and lagoon accessible only by kayak.

Unless you're kayaking directly to Madeline Island, you can pick up the ferry in Bayfield and rent kayaks in La Pointe. If you're getting there with your own, start at Big Bay State Park and paddle to the south side of the island to see the sea caves. Then head back to the beach at Big Bay for lunch before paddling across the bay to Big Bay Lagoon.

The sea caves and cliffs are an amazing sight but if you have limited time or you don't want to exhaust yourself, the lagoon is the place to see. The water is warmer and calmer. There's also wildlife to see, including turtles.
