About this place

Scenic hike in the hills of West Virginia close to Huntington area!

Located about 30 minutes from Huntington, the Overlook Trail gives hikers an overlooking view within Beech Fork State Park. Maps and brochures can be obtained at the park entrance. Admission is free. Upon entering the park, the trailhead is located in the first lot on your right. This trail is only 1.4 miles with approx. 250 ft of gradual elevation gain. The trail crosses a pedestrian bridge taking hikers to a quaint campfire circle. The Overlook Trail is in the Northeast corner, directly across the circle. The trail then connects you to the loop in which hikers can take either direction. I prefer turning left because it leaves the overlook view towards the end of the trail giving you added motivation. The loop takes you around the hillside and to the top where you can see Beech Fork. Once at the top, there is a nice bench to stop and take a breather. Beware of several unmarked trails at the top, as the actual Overlook Trail is very well marked. Leaving the overlook, the trail winds back down to the original spur from the campfire circle.

This is fairly trafficked trail so as always, take more out than what you brought in!

One of the better hikes near Huntington
This hike is a good afternoon activity if you are near the Huntington area, very well maintained and usually not crowded even during summer ...
