About this place

Added by Kim Baker

A running trail along the Straight of Juan De Fuca with incredible views of Port Angeles and the Olympic Mountains on one side and Mt. Baker and Vancouver Island on the other. The blue waters surrounding this sand spit are full of Orca Pods, harbor seals and other bustling marine life.

Ediz Hook or as locals call it, "the Spit" is a 3 mile long sand spit that extends out from Port Angeles along the Juan De Fuca. The views of the surrounding mountains and Vancouver Island, the marine life, beaches, and picnic areas make this a prime spot for a memorable run.

We parked at the lot for the Sail and Paddle Park at the beginning of the road but there is even more parking all along the trail for shorter distances. If you're interested in starting at the end of the Spit and running back toward Port Angeles there is roadside parking available where people stack rocks on the side of the sea.

With very little fluctuation in elevation the route stays pretty consistently at sea level.

There are picnic areas and restrooms along the trail with running water in the restrooms if you're in a pinch.

The tide is out in the morning and the water is calm. Seals and birds sit on the logs on the south side as the fog rolls across the road and usually burns off mid-morning.

This location is also spectacular at sunset when the tide comes in and the waves get higher. The wind picks up in the afternoon through the evening so be sure to dress warmer if you're planning to enjoy the run during this time of day.

Such an amazing experience and a local favorite!
