Sitting right off of the Columbia River, the McNary Wildlife Refuge offers incredibly easy access and a wide variety of wildlife.
The McNary Wildlife refuge is broken into multiple sub-parks as they are spread out along the Columbia River near Burbank, WA. The Burbank Slough is a bird watchers paradise, offering a photography bird blind right on the shore. The Bird blind is only about a hundred yards from the parking at the McNary Refuge headquarters, and is wheelchair accessible.
There are many species of wildlife that are known in the area, such as Ospreys, Pelicans, Canadian Geese, and many different species of songbirds.
Bring a long lens and plenty of snacks and spend the day exploring all that the McNary Refuge has to offer. Also the wind can be quite gusty, so bring a warm layers as you may find yourself standing still for long periods of time if you are bird watching. Other than the Burbank Slough there is the Wallula Unit and the Juniper Canyon unit.
