Hike or Kayak to Bead Lake Campsites

There are two entrances to Bead Lake - the boat launch and the ridge road. Turn right onto Bead Lake Ridge Road and follow it until you arrive at the parking lot. Start the hike at the marked trailhead #127 down to the lake through a dark cedar forest. Turn right at the boat launch and continue on the trail above the lake. At 1.0 mile there is a campsite on the lake with beach access, a fire pit, and beautiful views. At 1.5 miles, wander into another cedar forest and discover the "enchantment campsite" tucked into the trees. There are a total of 4 campsites along the lake and they each have a fire pit. The trail continues to wind around the lake and through the mixed conifer woods until you reach Lodge Creek at 4.6 miles. Take the #127.1 trail left for another 1.1 miles along the shoreline to reach the end of the trail and return the way you came.

Snowshoes are not always necessary but obviously make walking through the snow easier. The trail does not receive a lot of traffic in the winter months because the Bead Lake Ridge Road is usually not accessible due to snow. Check with the Newport Ranger station for road reports before visiting!

This is bear country, so if you plan a backpacking or kayaking trip to one of the 4 campsites located around the lake, prepare to store food in a bear canister. There is no potable water at the campsites, so also prepare to pack in or filter water for your trip.
