Bike to Wells Creek Falls

Wells Creek Falls is an incredible waterfall nestled in a tight canyon below Mt. Baker. The falls plunges 93-ft. over a volcanic cliff face and envelops the small amphitheater below in a cloud of mist. From there, Wells Creeks snakes through the canyon and enters Bar Creek on the opposite side of the access road. The falls is best accessed after periods of reduced rain or in the late summer months. During spring and early summer, Wells Creek swells in size as snowmelt rushes down from Mt. Baker. This will fill the basin with mist and could potentially make it hard to view and/or photograph the waterfall. Reaching the waterfall is not very difficult, but you will likely have to ford the creek in more than one spot.

Note - Wells Creek Road is closed for wildlife management from December 1st to July 1st annually. The falls will only be accessible by bike or on foot during that period (5 miles).

DIRECTIONS:

• From Bellingham: Head east on Highway 542 (Located near Mount Baker, off Highway 542)
• Continue past the Ranger Station in the town of Glacier for 7 miles
• Turn right onto Wells Creek Road #33. This road is also known as Nooksack Falls
• Follow Wells Creek Road for 5 miles to where it crosses Wells Creek. You will see a massive culvert that goes underneath the road
• Look left. Wells Creek Falls can be seen in the distance at the end of the canyon
• To reach the base of the waterfall, simply walk up the creek bed
