About this place

Added by Rachel Christiansen

Breathtaking views of Olympic National Park. Great spot for night photography. Access to scenic hiking trails.

Deer Park Campground is really a hidden gem. With an elevation of 5,400 feet, the campground has amazing views of Olympic National Park, making you feel like you are camping above the clouds.

There are also several hiking trails in the area that lead to even more spectacular views. Deer Park is one of the best places for night photography, as well, with its clear, dark skies above the mountains – at night, the stars are mind-blowing.

The park is not RV accessible, and is a tent camping only site – the gravel access road climbs over 5,000 feet, so if you're deathly afraid of heights, visiting is not recommended. The road is well maintained, and is suitable for a little Honda Civic, if necessary. Always check the Olympic National Park website before driving up here to be sure the road and campground are open.

Two of the camping spots at the campgrounds have wooden shelters, and there are also pit toilets available. Remember not to litter or to leave food out. There are some deer in the campground that are used to eating leftovers.

Reservations are first come, first served, and the season lasts from May or June through mid-October, depending on snowfall and road conditions. There is also a $10 cost for camping. For more information, see the Deer Park brochure.
