About this place

Added by Kelly Park

A fun and challenging hike/rock scramble up a series of waterfalls. One of the closest/easiest access Shenendoah Hikes from Washington DC and parking is free!

This hike starts with an immediate stream crossing -- how wet your feet get depends on the water level but bring an extra pair of socks! The first mile consists of a typical Shenandoah hike -- uphill on a dirt path and along a stream. But soon you reach the base of Little Devil Stairs. This portion includes scrambling rocks, several stream crossings, and tons of fun as you literally climb up a waterfall. Once you reach the top of the stairs, hike up a couple switchbacks where you will reach a junction and a small campsite where you can take a lunch or snack break. From there, turn left and continue an easy 2.5 mile downhill hike back to to the parking area. It's not incredibly scenic on this last portion but you will pass a lookout point and a cemetery.
