Bingham Falls

Hiking to Bingham Falls is rewarding for many reasons; people not only come to see the falls, but also to swim in the refreshing, icy cold swimming holes as well. The main falls are tucked away along the walls of a deep, rocky gorge that has been formed naturally over time. At the base of these falls lies large pools of teal colored water perfect for taking a dip on a hot summer's day. The trail that leads to the falls is short and relatively flat (half a mile one way). If you wish to explore the second set of lower falls, make sure you have reliable footwear; the descent to the base of the lower falls is rocky and the boulders are (more often than not) wet and slippery. Our visit here was in the autumn so it was too cold for swimming; but should you decide to go for a dip, use caution and be aware of the possible strong river currents.

Bingham Falls are also great for photography; make sure you bring your camera and tripod!

To get to the trailhead leading to the falls, look for the pull-offs on Route 108 just south of Smuggler's Notch State Park. The entrance to the trailhead will be on the east side of the highway. Finding the trailhead can be tricky if you're not looking for the pull-offs; signs for the trail are somewhat tucked back into the woods a bit from the trailhead entrance.
