About this place

Added by Rebecca Stubbs

Smaller crowds than more popular parks in the area. Stunning desert landscapes. Easy trail.

Kodachrome Basin State Park is located about 9 miles south of Cannonville which is on Highway 12 - midway between Bryce Canyon National Park and Escalante Petrified Forest State Park. It is slightly out of the way, but well worth the detour.

Angel's Palace Trail is an excellent option if you have a limited amount of time on your visit to Kodachrome Basin. It is a quick and easy hike at just 1.5 miles and 150 feet of elevation gain but yields high reward. The trail leads you up above the park road and you are able to see for an incredible distance. There is a small loop at the end of the trail if you wish to extend the hike a little - if you do, you will be brought back to the main trail and return the same way you came in. The trail is marked by cairns but you are free to wander around on the slick rock as well. The trail does not lead you right to the edge of any of the cliffs but, again, feel free to carefully approach the edges of the cliffs - that is where you get the best pictures from, right?
