About this place

Added by Jordan Smith

Beautiful seclusion just minutes from downtown Salt Lake City. Easy Access. No Car Days. Low Traffic. Water Access. Restroom Access. 11.6 miles. 1,370 foot elevation gain.

City Creek Canyon is a hidden gem, just minutes away from downtown Salt Lake City. Secluded winding roads will take you deep into the canyon, away from the bustling city. The sounds of the creek, canyon views, and the thick forest that lines the road provide for the perfect, quick escape.

Starting elevation is 4,670 ft. The road steadily climbs aside the creek bed to about 6,040 ft over the course of 5.8 Miles. There are several restrooms and picnic areas along the way, which provide great break areas or turnaround points for anyone that is not capable of or ready to make the entire climb.

During the summer, cycling is only allowed in the canyon on odd days beginning the last Monday in May and ending the last even day of September. This may seem cumbersome, but the upside is that there are no cars allowed on these days. Regardless of date, bicycling is not allowed on summer holidays.

Getting There:
Park on the east side of the Utah State Capitol Building. You will find plenty of parking stalls lining the public road. Suit up, take in the view of the Capitol Building, and ride north along the road to the first intersection. Turn right onto Penny Parade Dr. (also known as Canyon Rd) and continue approximately 1 mile to City Creek Canyon Rd. Hang a left and make your way up the canyon.
