About this place

Added by Jordan Smith

Enjoy scenic canyon views and maybe a glimpse of local wildlife on this 14.4 mile ride with gradual elevation gain.

If you're looking for a fun climb on your road bike that won't kill you, or you are trying to find a place to train for some bigger climbing, Emigration is the perfect place to ride. The elevation gain is gradual, allowing you to grind it out for a great training ride, or spin steadily to the top of the canyon for some incredible views.

From the parking lot just east of the Zoo to Little Mountain Summit at the top of Emigration Canyon, you will gain approximately 1,300 ft in elevation over 7.7 miles. Beginning elevation is 4,940 ft. Keep an eye out for deer, wild turkeys, even the occasional moose. You may even come across a rattle snake, soaking up some rays on the pavement. Careful where you put your feet down!

Enjoy the winding road and down-canyon views as you make your way to the top. Also, make sure you don't turn around too early. You'll find a beautiful view of Little Dell Reservoir on the back side of the summit.

Getting There:
Drive to Utah's Hogle Zoo, or if you'd like to add a little extra distance to your ride, start somewhere else in the valley and ride to the zoo. There is a small park just east of the zoo on the south side of the road where you will find ample parking space. From the parking lot, ride east on the main road (E Sunnyside Ave/Emigration Canyon Rd) into Emigration Canyon.
