About this place

Added by Derek Mathewson

...If you're in the MOAB area, this is an arch that's definitely worth checking out!

This arch probably doesn't get the recognition that it deserves, mainly due to number of arches that are in the town of MOAB and inside Arches & Canyonlands National Park.

The hike itself was fairly easy, considering I was mainly hiking along the OHV dirt roads. The trail/road I was on to get to the arch is used for 4x4 high-clearance riding, so if you have the right vehicle, you can actually drive within 100 feet from the arch. I definitely wasn't trying to put my truck through that stress, so I just hiked it. The trail is 6.4 miles, so 3.2 miles there and back. Once I got to the arch, I was impressed on how beautiful it was, and that I hadn't actually been here yet. Again, with so many arches to choose from in MOAB, this can easily be overlooked. When you're standing underneath the arch, there's an alcove that's tucked back in there, which is pretty cool!

Getting there:
You'll take the 191 highway and turn left (if you're driving North towards the I-70) on Mill Canyon Road. Go 0.6 miles before you shift to the left on Cotter Mine Road. Drive 2.4 miles until you get to the trailhead to the arch. There are some designated camping spots at the trailhead, but it is easy to miss, so keep a lookout. I personally would set your odometer for 3 miles until you get to the trailhead.

Other than that, you'll head back the same way you hiked in, and the trail is also pet friendly. As always, pack out what you packed in, leave no trace and never stop exploring!
