About this place

Added by Derrick Lytle

Great views. Trails with a variety of sand, rock, and dirt. Close to St. George. Duration: A few hours.

The Chuckwalla Trailhead is part of the Red Cliffs Desert Reserve and provides beautiful and easy to to access running, mountain biking and climbing right outside of St. George Utah.

To access the trailhead follow Bluff St. north toward Dameron Valley. Continue straight through the light at Snow Canyon Parkway and you will immediately see a a sign indicating the Chuckwalla Trailhead is on your right.

Chuckwalla offers plenty of free parking for cars, horse trailers, and there's also two bathrooms. There is no water available so be sure to bring plenty as it gets hot in southern Utah.

The Chuckwalla trail is just under a mile but there's other trails it connects with to add scenic miles to your run or hike.

Once you head down the trail immediately you will see a climbing wall on your right, probably covered in white chalk marks from the area's climbing community. There's a few trails in the area which may seem overwhelming but with high viewpoints and landmarks it's relatively easy to find your way back to the trailhead.

Be careful as the trails are multi use and open to runners, hikers, mountain bikers, horses, etc. The trails are popular. Please be respectful and friendly.

After spending some time at Chuckwalla I would recommend heading back down Bluff, towards I-15, and stopping at Jazzy Java (now known as Jazzy's Rock n' Roll Grill). They are have great food and love the dirtbag climbing and running community.
