About this place

Added by Chris Engelsman

Camping at Sand Flats Recreation Area in Moab UT is an exceptional experience!

The rock domes and slickrock around the campsites provide fun for young and old to scramble on, or simply enjoy the sunrise or sunset.

Located just outside of the town of Moab Utah is the Sand Flats Recreation Area. The area is managed jointly by the Bureau of Land Management and Grand County Utah so State and Federal Park passes are not accepted.

From the town of Moab, take East Mill Creek Road, which turns into Sand Flats Rd and leads to the famous Slickrock trails , fins, Porcupine Rim , and Whole Enchilada .

The fee is $15 fee to camp, and it's first-come first served. There are over 120 campsites in 9 campgrounds marked A-H. Campground A is closest to the entrance and adjacent to the Slickrock trails. Further down the road are the other campgrounds. During the spring and fall, the campsites are typically full Thursday thru Saturday, but generally, 20% of the sites turn over each night, so get there in the morning to claim your spot.

Almost all of the spots are drive-up, but a couple of the loops require high clearance vehicles or a short hike to the sites. There are outhouses at the campgrounds, but no running water, so be sure to bring water. You can cook at the campfire and eat at the picnic tables at each campsite, or head into town.

Have fun!
