About this place

Added by Kim Baker

A gradual downhill hike, through wildflower meadows and past two other beautiful lakes. Several campsites, all with breathtaking views.

The hike to Notch Lake begins at the Bald Mountain trailhead. You'll need to display a recreation pass in your vehicle to park at the trailhead. You can purchase a pass for $6 at the fee station entering the forest boundary (east of Kamas) or at the Forest Service office right in Kamas.

Take the trail on the left side with the sign for "Notch Mountain Trail." The downhill trail leads you through several beautiful meadows with wildflowers in the summer.

After 1.5 miles you'll arrive at Clegg Lake. Continuing north along the trail you'll pass by Dean Lake just before arriving at Notch Lake. This hike is 2.3 miles to the lake with a -600 ft. elevation loss. Keep in mind that there will be a 600 ft. elevation gain for your return hike.

There are several campsites surrounding Notch Lake, all with beautiful views and some with fire pits. The lake is a popular destination, especially in the summer. Arrive early in the day when possible to claim your campsite.
