5 Family-Friendly Adventures in Grand Teton National Park
Summer is here, and it's time for road trips, family vacations, and weekends in the mountains! Grand Teton National Park, right outside of the quintessential mountain town of Jackson, Wyoming, is full of family-friendly adventures.
The next time you're in the area, be sure to check out the Togwotee Mountain Lodge & Cabins, located just minutes from the park entrance. Togwotee has standard rooms and suites in their lodge and cabins that are perfect for small families. Four of them are even dog-friendly! The resort also has two restaurants and outdoor cowboy cookouts on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Here are a few of our favorite family-friendly activities in Grand Teton National Park.
See the Tetons as you've never seen them before with a paddle on String Lake and Leigh Lake. String Lake's crystal-clear, shallow water lets everyone get used to paddling before making the short portage to bigger Leigh Lake. Pack a picnic and some camp chairs, because there are plenty of places to stop and enjoy the shore (and the views!).
Canoe and kayak rentals are available near the Craig Thomas Discovery and Visitor Center inside the park.
You'll never hear the kids say "I'm bored!" on this 2-mile hike along Jackson Lake. The trail is always next to the water, and opportunities for rock-skipping, photography, and wading abound. It's one of the most easily accessible locations to check out the Milky Way, too.
This trail is so beautiful that it can get crowded, so plan to go early in the morning or in the evening to beat the crowds. Don't forget your bear spray.
Mt Moran reflects perfectly off the Snake River at Oxbow Bend, a spot on the river right along Route 191. Sunrise is the perfect time to snap photos, so pack a breakfast for the whole family and head out early. Can you think of a better spot to enjoy your bagel and cream cheese? We can't either.
Explore off the beaten path with a hike to Huckleberry Point. This 4-mile hike gains only 500 feet of elevation but leads to an overlook that reaches across the wide Jackson Hole valley. The trail then descends to Phelps Lake, where there are opportunities for swimming and cliff jumping.
Looking for big views that are friendly to little legs? Take a drive up Signal Mountain Road. This 5-mile paved road is narrow and winding and leads to a panoramic view of the valley and the Tetons. In the summer keep an eye out for wildflowers, and enjoy the foliage in the fall.
