The Upper Sunset Trail at Franklin Mountains SP Best offers up the best sunset in El Paso and is a great place to hike and camp.
The trick to this view is that the park gate closes at 5 pm. Therefore you have two options:
Option 1
Park at the entrance of the park (outside of the gate) and hike into the park. From there walk along the road to the park entrance ($5 entrance fee) and continue to the first left road where you turn and then walk to the TH of the Upper Sunset Trail and then hike up approximately and additional trail .5 miles up to the bench viewpoint.
Option 2
CAMP at the park! Even though the park is located in the middle of El Paso, it’s a great campsite to escape the city and enjoy the evening’s sunset and stargazing. (To camp, call the park to reserve a site and then once in the park walk, or drive, to the end of the paved road and then hike the .5 ascent to the bench viewpoint. Or you can enjoy the grilling area located at the parking area.
