About this place

Added by Merritt McKinney

The short but steep hike to White Rock Overlook is a great workout with a rewarding view.

The White Rock trailhead is less than a 10 minute drive from downtown Johnson City. When pulling up Highbridge Road, take a left at the fork. You will shortly encounter a vehicle gate where you will park to the side of the road (do not block the yellow vehicle gate).

You have the option to walk up the gravel utility road behind the vehicle gate or up the dirt path. Both ways will lead you to the overlook in roughly the same distance. The gravel road is wide and is extremely steep where the dirt trail is tight, runs through the forest, and is composed of switchbacks.

When approaching the top, a radio tower will begin to reveal itself. When the radio tower is in clear sight, instead of following the gravel road toward the tower, turn left towards into the trail marked "White Rock." After entering into the trail, the overlook is less than a tenth of a mile straightforward along the trail.

There are several rock faces which overlook Johnson City, Elizabethton, and Irwin.
