Hike to the top of Frozen Head State park with a 360 degree view of the mountains.
To get to this hike the easiest way is to go up Petros hwy near the closed Brushy Mountain State prison. The trailhead is a large gravel lot on the side of the road. The trail is an old road so it is wide and well taken care of. However, the trail is very steep all the way up. The trail has only a few spots that are flat or downhill. The trail comes to a small split 1.7 miles in and goes up the hill to the left. At the split there is a small campground and a stream for water if you are backpacking. If you do plan on staying at the campground you must get a permit from the Frozen Head State Park a permit can be obtained online or at the visitor center. The area around the tower offers a nice place for a picnic with two picnic tables and the tower offers a nice view of the surrounding mountains. On a good day of visibility you can see all the way to the Smoky mountains.
