About this place

Added by Clare Healy

From the trailhead at Signal Point, you'll take in sweeping views of the Tennessee River straightaway before heading around to Edwards Point for more views of the Tennessee River Gorge, Middle Creek Gorge, and Chattanooga Valley.

The Signal Point to Edwards Points trail serves as the southernmost leg of the Cumberland Trail, winding through part of the Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park. From the initial Signal Point overlook, the path descends into Middle Creek Gorge, passes through the Rainbow Lake Wilderness Area, then enters Prentice Cooper State Forest and Wildlife Management Area.

The sweeping views of the Tennessee River Gorge are bountiful and the trail, just under 6 miles, is good for hikers of all ages. The path passes by the gorgeous Rainbow Lake, over the infamous Swinging Bridge, and past many interesting rock formations, keeping the trail interesting throughout. The path is skinny but away from the edge and the elevation gain is minimal throughout. The toughest uphill is found at the set of wooden stairs at the beginning and end of the hike, leading back to Signal Point Park and the parking lot.
