River Boardwalk Trail

This trail is located at the Ijams Nature Center. Ijams Nature Center is only 10 minutes from downtown Knoxville and is a great place to escape city life and enjoy the outdoors. The parking lot here is quite large and in the busy season it has an overflow lot too. Ijams Nature Center has many hikes but the most popular is the River Trail which takes you along the Boardwalk. The trail starts at the Nature Center and takes you towards the river. Make sure to follow the signs and maps and hike along the Tower trail to get to River Trail. The hike is an out and back but there are plenty of hikes in this area to check out so you can make it a loop if you want. The Tower trail takes you over the ridge then down to the river. Along the boardwalk there are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view of the river. There is a lot of wildlife and wildflowers along this trail so look out for squirrels, chipmunks, fish, turtles, and possibly otters in the river. To get back to the parking lot you just go back the way you came.
