Citico creek offers a great place to camp, swim, fish, and hike. There are lots of swimming areas and fishing within 100 feet of the campground.
There are a few options for getting to Citico Creek, you can either go up the windy gravel road from US 411 or get off of the Cherohala Skyway and go down the mountain past the Indian Boundary campground. The Citico Creek campground has about 5 or 6 spots but is rarely full because it is very secluded. It is a free campground but it has no amenities including no bathrooms however there are bathrooms about 4 miles up the mountain towards Indian Boundary. This is one of the only free campgrounds near the Cherohala Skyway so it offers a good area to stop and camp while traveling. At Citico Campground you can trout fish in several areas the deep pools and under the bridge offer some good areas for fishing. During the summer, especially on the weekends, the area can get very busy in the early hours from trout fisherman arriving and leaving the fishing areas.
There are some other places to camp nearby down the river from Citico Creek campground so if it is overflowing with people there are other options.
Since there are no trash bins on site please leave no trace and carry out what you bring and be sure to put campfires completely out before leaving the area.
