Head out to Majing Lake for scenic, starlit views of the night sky. This is a great place to be for scenic sunrise photos as well.
If you want to get great night views on your hike out, start at 2 am in the village of Leukerbad. There's parking at "Obere Maressen", which is also the starting point. Follow the track to Majingsee. There are multiple routes to the lake but make sure to stay on this trail - it's definetely the better route when it's dark.
The different routes all start at a clearing in the forest, a few minutes from where you started. Just before the clearing, take the track on your right. Follow this one for a few minutes and before it goes back into the forest, take the one to your right, leading east through a meadow. There's a small ascent until you reach a country road, which you will follow for another 15 minutes until you reach the lake.
There is a fireplace and fresh water at Majing Lake ("Majingsee" in German), as well as a few picnic tables. If you stay until dawn or sunrise - I advise you to do so - then you can head back on a different route. But first - enjoy the silence and take a good, long look at the night sky.
