Hike to Spirit Mound

Spirit Mound Historic Prairie is located outside Vermillion, South Dakota and consists of a 1.4 mile hike up to the top of a prairie mound. Lewis and Clark made the trek years ago, making it a historical marker to visit and see. Beautiful wildflowers line the trail, mixed in with acres of prairie grasses. The mound may not look too far, but the gradual incline up to the top of the mound can be challenging for some. 

Along with the trail, there is a covered picnic area. It is free to access, and is well worth the drive just outside Vermillion. Bring your sunscreen, though! There isn't much tree coverage at all.
