Redcliffe Plantation

Nestled in between Augusta GA and Aiken SC, Redcliffe Plantation is one of the many large historic plantations in South Carolina. Built in 1859, it was once home to Hames Henry Hammond, an extremely successful businessman, congressman, governor, and senator.  The Greek-Revival style plantation home is gorgeous and is named after the large mound of southern “red clay” (South Carolina is so famously known for) that it was built upon. The grounds of the plantation home are its main attraction. The enormous 350+ acres of land the plantation home sits atop is spotted with gorgeously large magnolia trees. As you wander the grounds, you will discover the plantation stables, Magnolia Avenue,  Redcliffe Plantation Cabins, and the beautiful gardens surrounding the home. A number of rocking chairs are on Redcliffe’s wrap-around deck and provide a beautiful view of the plantation and surrounding gardens. Tours of the inside of the home take place Thursday-Monday at 11AM, 1PM, and 3PM. However, the grounds of the plantation home are open everyday from 9AM-6PM. If you’re lucky, you might be able to convince them to let you stay till sunset!
