Hike to Big Bend Falls

The hike to Big Bend Falls begins on the Chattooga River Trail at the Burrell's Ford Campground. To get here you take Burrell's Ford Road off of SC 107. There will be a good sized gravel parking area off to the left about 3 miles down Burrell's Ford Road. 

When you park the car you can walk down the gravel road at the end of the parking area. Once you get down to the camp ground, continue through in the southern direction and the trail begins where the camp ground ends. 

The trail is marked very well with black blazes, and you will also see white blazes along the way as the foothills trail overlaps the Chattooga River Trail here. As you hike you will see a few common camping areas on the bank with some good places to stop and eat, or swim on the way back to the car. 

Follow the trail along the river for about 2.5 miles. Here you will see an intersection of the Big Bend Trail on the left. Take the trail to the right and continue just over 0.5 miles. Here you will hear the roar of the falls and there will be some fairly steep trails on the right down to the river. 

The falls are only about a 30 ft. drop but are extremely powerful and worth the 3.25 mile hike down the river.
