5 Reasons to Join Hammock Culture

Hang and chill.

These days, you'd be hard-pressed to drive through a campground, college campus, or music festival without seeing at least one hammock strung between two trees or poles. But back in 1999, when Eagles Nest Outfitters (ENO, for short) began selling their lightweight, packable hammocks out of the back of a ramshackle van, the idea that a hammock belonged anywhere but on a heavy metal stand in the backyard was revolutionary.

Now, 20 years later, ENO continues to innovate with hammocks that are easy to hang, comfortable to sleep in, fun to lounge in, and super packable. In honor of their 20th anniversary, here are five reasons why you should join the hammock culture that ENO helped start.

From Setup to Relaxation in Less Than a Minute

Hammocks are easy and quick to set up. ENO's strap system, which doesn't require any knowledge of knots, is so simple that you'll have your hammock unpacked and set up in less than 60 seconds. Whether you're looking to simply relax, or are settling in for a night's sleep between the trees, you'll get there faster with a hammock.

Take One Everywhere

ENO's packable hammocks take up so little room that you'll barely notice it's there. Their signature hammock, the SingleNest, packs down to 3.5" x 5.5" and weighs only 16 ounces. Throw one in your car, your beach bag, or your backpack, and you'll be ready to set up whenever you find two promising trees to swing between.

Soak in the Views from a Comfortable Perch

I'm sure you've seen it on Instagram — a hammock set up with an epic view over the ocean, or the mountains, or a beautiful forest. Sometimes Instagram pictures are too good to be true, but with a hammock, you can literally set up anywhere that there are two well-spaced trees or poles (and it's allowed). Million-dollar views are all yours, with the added benefit of a comfortable nest to enjoy them.

Low Impact Camping or Lounging

Sleeping or chilling in a hammock is low impact — even Leave No Trace says so. Be sure you're using "tree-saving" straps over 3/4-inch wide, and avoid areas with sensitive plants or soils. Hang your hammock from the thickest part of the tree, and never hang from a dead tree. Stay aware of your surroundings, and you'll be good to go!

Relax to the Max

Relaxing in a hammock, swinging gently in the breeze with leaves rustling overhead, is such a perfect way to spend the afternoon. Bring a book, bring a pillow, bring a drink to enjoy...or simply lay there and take in the moment.

No matter how you hang, you'll feel your stress melt away in the embrace of a hammock.
