About this place

Added by Rachel Davidson

Run, walk, or bike on this scenic, tucked-away trail alongside Crystal Springs Reservoir. This trail is 6 miles one-way, or 12 miles roundtrip.

The Sawyer Camp Trail is a popular paved trail that stretches alongside the Crystal Springs Reservoir all the way to Hillcrest Blvd. The sixth mile crosses over the San Andreas Dam with nice views of San Andreas Lake.

There are markers every half mile which makes timing and tracking your run easy. Even though the path is paved, there are wide dirt shoulders on either side that have been packed down by runners looking for softer ground.

Getting there is easy, just plug in "Sawyer Camp Trail" or the intersection of "Skyline Blvd & Crystal Springs Rd" into your maps app and follow directions. Park in one of the designated spots just outside of the trailhead entrance, or parallel park along Skyline Blvd. This is one of the most popular trails in the Bay Area so expect lots of company if you are going at peak hours. Pro trip: This trail makes for an excellent sunrise run where you can avoid the crowds & heat from later on in the day.

I frequently see deer on this trail, but unfortunately dogs are not allowed. Benches overlooking the reservoir line the trail and fill up quickly with walkers and picnic-goers. Around mile 1 and mile 4 you'll pass restroom facilities, but be warned: There is no water available, so hydrate properly beforehand.
