Hike the Old Homestead Loop

This is a fun day hike that takes you through the beautiful hills of the Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve and a bit of the Contra Loma Recreational Area as well. You can hike here year round, but I suggest going in the spring time when the hills are covered in soft, green grass and the wild California poppies are in their full glory. This park is dog-friendly, so bring your best friend along!

Park in the Contra Loma Recreational Area parking lot. Then, hop on the Homestead trail which will transition into the Old Homestead Loop Trail. All that's left is to sit back, follow the trail, and enjoy the scenery as you make your way around the loop. Keep your eye out for wildlife, such as mountain lions and coyotes.

When you have made your way back to the parking area, take a quick dip in the Contra Loma Recreational Area lagoon to cool off. You can enjoy a nice picnic lunch or kick back with a good book and relax before packing up and hitting the road.
