About this place

Added by Brian Heifferon

This is a beautiful little hike tucked away in a residential area of Larkspur. In the summer, the redwoods provide ample shade. In the winter, the trail is lined with moss-covered trees and lush forest. Perfect option for a rainy day hike.

Take the Dawn Falls trail down into the Baltimore Canyon for an in-depth exploration of northern California nature. Rather than the usual dry, hardy vegetation that speckles the hills of many nearby trails, this trail is bursting with lush ferns and mossy trees as it meanders along next to Larkspur Creek. Although it's a relatively easy and short hike, it very scenic. And for only being a short drive from San Francisco, it's one to add to your list.

Because of its redwood canopy and mellow trail, this is perfect option for a rainy day hike. If you're hoping to catch the waterfall running, your best bet is to do this hike after the rainy season has already set it. But even if the waterfall is only at a trickle, it's still a worthwhile hike. Just be sure to were adequate hiking shoes/boots, as the trail can be damp and muddy in places.

This hike is an out-and-back to the waterfall (1.1 miles each way). You'll notice that the trail extends beyond the waterfall and up a steep series of switch backs. Many people extend the hike to a nearly 5-mile loop, but be sure to check the maps at the trailhead on how to properly link up the trails.

Dawn Falls Hike
Took the whole family (grandparents + 7-month) on this hike over the weekend (Sunday afternoon). The trail was really well-maintained and easy to follow. ...
