Camp by the beach in Big Sur with cliffs on either side and river cascading into the ocean. Explore the nearby Redwood forest with waterfalls, limekilns and a variety of trails.
This campsite is split into two sections and is located directly below a bridge along Route 1 the Pacific Coast Highway. Be cautious turning into the park as the incline and turn are quite serious.
Below the bridge are campsites located both along the tree line and tiered up along the hill. Under the bridge is a combination of a rocky and sandy beach with beautiful views of the sunset. There is also a river that flows into the ocean along a variety of rocks worn smooth over the ages.
The second set of campsites are located a mere 200 yards back from the others along the river and up into the redwood forest. There are bathroom and showers located between the two campsites. All of the sites have room to fit at least one car and provide a picnic table, fire pit and flat areas for tents.
There are a few hiking trails at the far end of the campsite that lead off towards the old Limekilns and a beautiful double waterfall. The trails wind through beautiful wilderness and can provide a full day of discovery for folks young and old. I do advise that visitors pack layers as the weather between the beach and the redwood forest can vary quite extremely.
