About this place

Added by Chris Engelsman

Close to San Francisco, but feels remote. A short hike provides beautiful views of the Marin Headlands, Pacific Ocean, and the Bay.

Bootjack Campground is located within California's Mount Tamalpais State Park. There are a couple of campsites within the park, but if you are driving on the Panoramic Highway from Mill Valley, this will be the first campground you pass.

The fee is $25 fee to camp, but they have bathrooms and running water. There is a total of 11 campsites which are first-come-first-served and tent only. You'll have to walk to the tent spots, but they are a short distance from the parking area. Each campsite has a picnic table and firepit. The Bootjack Creek flows along the campsites providing tranquil sounds to put you to sleep. Also, the day use area is handicap accessible.

From the campground, there are many trails to hike and explore. For example, you can hike down the Bootjack Trail to Muir Woods National Monument, or hike above the campground on the Bootjack Trail to the Riding and Hiking Trail for excellent sunrise and sunset views of the Marin Headlands and Bay.

If this campground is full, there are also first-come-first-served sites at Pantoll Campground
