About this place

Added by Alex E

Photograph the unique Mexican/American Border in CA. Bring a mountain bike to cover more ground or you camping gear and camp at the Southern Terminus of the PCT.

From San Diego head East on Hwy 8 for roughly 60 miles to Buckman Springs Road (Exit 51). Take a right on Buckman Springs road an drive South for 10 miles. Turn right on CA-94 W (Campo Rd) and drive for 1.5 miles. After crossing the railroad tracks turn left on Forrest Gate Road. Take this road for 1.2 miles until you come to a Y in the road. Stay to the right until you reach the border wall a couple hundred yards ahead. The PCT Southern Terminus marker will be on your left 20 feet from the border wall.

From here, Drive, Bike or Hike along the Mexican/American Border just south of Campo, California. Other than the occasional Border Patrol Officer the road is very isolated. The road along the rusty metal border wall offers many unique photo opportunities. You can camp at the Southern Terminus of the Pacific Crest Trail and make a weekend adventure out of it. Wake up before sunset to get the most dramatic shots and best lighting for your photos. You can make this part of the start of your hike on the PCT or just as a day trip since Campo, CA is only 1 hour from Downtown San Diego.
