Point Loma Tide Pools

Begin by making your way towards the Point Loma Naval Base. Continue along that road as far as it goes and you will come to the Cabrillo National Monument. Upon entering the park you will have to pay a fee to get down to the tide pools. It is $5 per car or $3 per person if you choose to walk in. However, the road down to the tide pools is rather steep and long so I suggest spending the extra two dollars to take a car as opposed walking down or riding a bike.

Once you pass the park entrance take a right down towards the water. Follow the long windy road all the way down to the parking lot. There are signs marking the way that are labeled “Tide Pools”. Parking can be difficult to find at times so come early to avoid the crowds!

Once parked, follow the trail (it is on the right if you are looking at the ocean) down to the tide pools. If it is high tide, don’t fret! While the tide pools may not be accessible, there are still plenty of great views to take in and countless places to snap the perfect photo! Simply continue walking along the short trail that winds along the cliffs.

This is the perfect adventure to take children on as it is not too long and they can enjoy looking at all the different sea creatures in the tide pools. Just make sure they are careful because the rocks can be slippery!
