About this place

Added by Outbound

Cuyamaca Peak offers up amazing views overlooking San Diego. This is also the only dog-friendly trail in Cuyamaca Rancho SP.

This peak is one of the tallest in the county. Reaching the summit of the peak takes you to an elevation of 6500'. Although this peak isn't as challenging as others nearby, it's located in the center of San Diego, which offers up amazing views, which is the main reason to take this hike. The best views can be had during the fall, winter, and spring months, particularly after a storm. This way the smog is cleared out, leaving the local landmarks highly visible.

To get on the trail, park you car at the Paso Picacho day use area right next to the campground. There is a fee to park there for the day. Once you've crossed the campground, take the fire road toward the peak. Be sure to stay on the fire road, not losing sight of your goal as you'll come across several junctions as you head up. Once you reach the peak, get your rest and enjoy the 360 degree views of the area.

If you're looking to make this an overnight or weekend trip, set up a camp reservation at Paso Picacho.

Take the Azalea Glen Trail for a longer and much more scenic hike.
